House tour funds garden clubs' projects

The Twenty-Sixth Annual Candlelight Tour presented by the Seventh District Federated Garden Clubs of New York State was held in the Ogden-Spencerport area on Sunday afternoon, December 3.

The Seventh District is a consortium of garden clubs in the greater Rochester area. Spencerport Garden Club, Hubbard Springs Garden Club, Oatka Garden Club, Gates Garden Club and Conesus Garden Club worked together throughout 2006 to make the tour a success.

Five homes and a hospitality center were available to those who participated in the tour. Adams Basin Bed & Breakfast on Washington Street was decorated by the owner, Halya Sobkiewz, and the Gates Garden Club. Dan and Susan D'Angelo and the Hubbard Springs Garden Club decorated the D'Angelo home on Rock Ridge Circle. David and Barbara Baker and the Spencerport Garden Club were responsible for decorating the Baker's home on Maplewood Avenue. Chris and Naci Zastawrny and the Conesus Garden Club decorated the Zastawrny home on Luther Jacobs Way. John and Dena Shortino and the Oatka Garden Club decorated the Shortino home on Brower Road. The Spencerport Garden Club set up and decorated the fellowship hall at the Ogden Presbyterian Church where refreshments were served during the afternoon.

Many of the homes also had live music provided during the tour.

Proceeds from the ticket donations help support the projects of the Seventh District throughout the year. A sample of these include the Rochester Civic Garden Center, workshops for flower design, Ronald McDonald House, Habitat for Humanity. D.E.C. Camp, scholarships, Monroe Community Hospital and improvement grants to member garden clubs for civic projects.
