Hart hat trick leads Blue Devils

Alan Hart might want to catch the flu every week of the hockey season. After missing last week's game with the illness, the forward came back this week with a hat trick to lead the Brockport Blue Devils to a 4-3 victory over Churchville-Chili in Monroe County High School hockey.

Hart had the only goal by either team in the first period at the 10:25 mark with an assist from David Roberts.

The Saints tied the game at 2:58 of the second period on a shorthanded effort by Chris Rossignolo after taking a pass from Mike Schockow. Churchville-Chili took a 2-1 lead six minutes later on a goal from Matt Carey from Chris Leonard and Steve Conlon.

The lead was short-lived as Brockport's Hart was left all alone in front and scored just 52 seconds later to tie the score from Roberts and Brandon Minor. Seventeen seconds after that, Anthony Starnino let go a slapshot from the left point that eluded the goaltender and gave the Blue Devils a 4-2 lead.

In the final seconds of the second period, Brockport goaltender Amanda Hoy stopped consecutive breakaway chances by Carey and Cody Hewitt. That allowed the Blue Devils to score an insurance goal 20 seconds into the third period as Hart completed his hat trick from Roberts and Starnino.

"For all three goals, it was just my teammates getting me the puck and being in the right place at the right time," said Hart. "The third goal went in five-hole. I just play as hard as I can and hope the other guys can keep up."

After C-C's Joe Bauer was stopped on a breakaway, the Saints drew to within one goal at 13:32 when EJ Coyne one-timed a pass from Hewitt. Zach Bucholtz was also credited with an assist on the play.

In the final minute with the goaltender pulled for the extra attacker, the Saints could not get the tying goal, with Roberts winning three key defensive zone faceoffs for the Blue Devils.

Hoy made 24 saves in net for Brockport to pick up the win. Kyle Caverly stopped 22 of 26 shots in net for the Saints.
