Accident causes power outages; damage to utilities in Spencerport
After the movie filming was over for the day, the production went on with a new crew. In Spencerport village Saturday, December 16, many passersby stopped to watch the filming of scenes for a movie, “Alphabet Killer,” an independent feature loosely based on the 1970s unsolved murders of three Rochester area girls whose first and last names began with the same initials. more

Coast Guard withdraws Great Lakes Live-Fire proposal
The U.S. Coast Guard has withdrawn the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) to establish 34 safety zones for live-fire training on the Great Lakes. The decision follows internal review, meetings with many community leaders, as well as nine publish meetings, and numerous comments from the public and their elected representatives. more

Kiwanis Club of Brockport supports toy shelf
The Kiwanis Club of Brockport participated in the Toys for Tots Program. This program allows local Kiwanis Clubs to participate in a lottery to purchase toys. Brockport Kiwanis purchased 400 toys suited for various age groups. more

College libraries evolve to meet 21st century needs
On June 30, 2007, Roberts Wesleyan College will welcome its library into the 21st century. The Golisano Library, currently under construction, will nearly double the square footage of the Sprague Library, which, though aging and crammed, has served campus research needs since 1965. more

A penny for a CURE
Holley Elementary School once again reached out to children with cancer by participating in the Pennies for CURE - The Million Penny Drive. Sponsored by the Student Council, all classes brought in their pennies from home and added them to the jugs in the main office from October 30 through December 8. more

SkillsUSA students held their yearly Breakfast with Santa holiday party for children from Orleans County. The students organized a toy and clothing drive, shopped and wrapped presents, and worked with Culinary Arts students to create the breakfast for the party. more

Byron-Bergen junior Emma Long shattered her own school record in the 100-yard butterfly, but the Bees dropped both the girls and boys swimming meets to Pembroke. more

Black Belt honors awarded
On Saturday, December 2, three members of Holley Karate, Kim Whittier, Andrea Quaranto, and Thad Whittier, satisfied the requirements set forth by the International Federation of Kyokushin Karate (IFKK) and were awarded the rank of Shodan (1st degree black belt.) more

Bright Raven gymnasts win at Candy Cane Classic
Bright Raven Gymnasts Club in Gates hosted the Eleventh Annual Candy Cane Classic December 9 and 10 at SUNY College at Brockport with 400 gymnasts representing 18 Upstate New York teams. more

Donahey's 3-point effort leads Cadets
Co-captain Aaron Donahey scored two shorthanded goals and set up the game-winner by Matt Simon as Hilton defeated Churchville-Chili 4-3 in high school hockey. more

Girls basketball teams join in gift giving spirit
The Brockport Girls Freshman, JV & Varsity Basketball teams are making a local family's Christmas a little bit brighter. The players donated to a shopping fund and then went to a local store with their teammates to purchase items on the family's wish list. more

Spencerport names Boys Lacrosse Coach
Jerami Frechette has been named the Rangers' new varsity boys lacrosse coach. Frechette has been an assistant coach with the Rangers since the inception of the program. He is also a technology teacher at Spencerport High School and assistant varsity football coach. more

Varsity teams qualify as Scholar Athletes
All nine fall varsity athletic teams qualified at Spencerport Schools for the NYSPHSAA Team Scholar Athlete Award during the fall 2006 season. In order to qualify, a team must have a team grade point average of 90 percent or above. more
