Bright Raven gymnasts win at Candy Cane Classic

Bright Raven Gymnasts Club in Gates hosted the Eleventh Annual Candy Cane Classic December 9 and 10 at SUNY College at Brockport with 400 gymnasts representing 18 Upstate New York teams.

Bright Raven’s Level 4 team captured first place with several gymnasts winning individual honors. In the 6-8 age division, Julie Shire of Chili took first place all around (35.60), first place on the uneven parallel bars (8.85), second place on balance beam (8.65), second place on floor exercise (8.95) and third place on vault (9.15). Brooke Adam of Greece was first on vault (9.35), first on balance beam (8.80), first on floor (9.25) and second all around (35.30). Samantha Garcea of Churchville took second place on vault (9.30). In the 9-year-old age division, Allison Prem of Hilton was first on vault (9.65), first on beam (9.075) and second all around (35.75). Hannah Thomas of North Chili took second place on beam (8.70), second on floor (9.25), third on bars (9.15) and third all around (35.75). Emily Wade of Chili took second place on vault (9.25). Maggie Callan of LeRoy was second on bars (9.20). In the 10-year-old division, Tess Diskin of LeRoy was first on vault (9.475), first on bars (9.50), first on beam (9.30) and first all around (36.775). Madeline Plucknette of Churchville was second on beam (9.15), third on floor (9.05) and third all around (36.325). In the 12 and over age division, Sarah Daniels of Churchville was first on vault (9.60), first on bars (9.375), first on beam (9.65) first on floor (9.10) and first all around (37.725). Madeline Kopp of Spencerport took second all around (36.10) and place third on vault (9.10) and third on bars (9.15). Margaret Meyerhofer of Spencerport was third all around (36.00) and took second on vault (9.40). Ashlee Orto of Churchville took second place on both beam (9.10) and floor (9.10).

Bright Raven’s Level 5 team earned the second place team trophy. In the 7-9 age division, Alison Steinmetz of Greece took first place all around (35.425) and also earned first place on vault (8.80), second on beam (8.65) and third on bars (8.775). Karina Kyle of Brockport took third place all around (34.925) and was second on both vault (8.65) and floor (9.25). In the 10-year-old division, Rachel Shire of Chili was first all around (35.45), first on bars, (9.30), first on beam (8.95) and third on vault (8.30). Nikole VanWie of Brockport took third place on bars (9.225), third on beam (8.90) and third on floor (9.325). In the 13 and over age division, Nicole Bell of Gates was first all around (36.55), first on vault (9.10), first on beam (9.35) and third on floor (9.00).

The Level 6 team also was awarded the second place team trophy. Among local participants in the 7-10 age division, Megan Stevens of Brockport took second place on bars (8.725) and second place all around (35.25). Danielle Adam of Greece was third on beam (9.20). In the 12-year-old division, Kristina Schiffhauer of Greece captured first place on vault (9.15). In the 13 and over division, Amber Rice of Brockport took second on beam (8.85).

In the Level 9 Competition for ages 14 and older, local participants included Kerry Apeland of Chili who captured first place all around (35.35) and also took first on both bars (9.30) and beam (8.85). In the 13 and under age division, Emily Thomas of North Chili was awarded first all around (34.975).
