Motorists in Orleans County, the Orleans County Sheriff's have got your number, your license plate number that is. About a month ago, the department installed a Remington License Plate Reader system in one of their marked patrol cars and so far they have read 18,000 license plates which triggered 100 valid alarms. more

Residents and officials discuss Route 531 extension options
Brockport is more of a destination than simply a place to drive through on the way to somewhere else, this according to Department of Transportation officials. "We have to take into consideration that Brockport is as much of a point of origin and destination as a through-put," Kevin Bush, DOT's regional design engineer said at a January 10 meeting in Brockport. more

Churchville-Chili Central School District will hold kindergarten registration in April. Children who will be five years old on or before December 1, 2007 are eligible to start school in September 2007. more

Assemblyman Bill Reilich joins Eagle Scout Devin Heitz. Devin celebrated with family and friends at the Brockport Elks Club recently. A member of Troop 111, Devin has been an active member of scouting for five years. more

Billboard shows number of calls
Hilton Fire Captain Joe Lissow and EMS Captain Kevin Corcoran flank the department's billboard which lists the number of calls made in 2006. The Hilton Fire Department responded to approximately 1,400 calls for service last year. more

K-9 Kids pick up dog conditioning tips
On January 5, the K-9 Kids of Monroe County had a guest speaker at their meeting. The guest speaker was Dr. Heather Beaudry-St. Germain from Animal Rehabilitation Center of Rochester. The topic covered in the presentation was how to condition your dog. more

Scholarships available for Hamlin, Sweden students
SUNY College at Brockport is accepting applications for two scholarships for students residing in Sweden or Hamlin. The Margaret A. McGrath Charitable Foundation provides funding for the two awards. Applications for the 2007-2008 academic year will be accepted through March 1. more

Spelling Bee at Byron- Bergen
The annual Robert Fowler Spelling Bee was held on December 22. This year, 21 participants qualified for the competition by taking a preliminary test. more

Senior Jenna Payne led the way with 20 points for the women and Alfonso Evans scored 29 for the men as Roberts Wesleyan swept a basketball doubleheader from Myers University from Cleveland. more

Spencerport's Barton finds success at home
Allen Barton began the season third among three goaltenders in his senior season at Niagara University. He hadn't played a single minute since his sophomore campaign and was fourth on the depth chart last season. But events have enabled Barton to move into the regular rotation this season for the nationally ranked Purple Eagles. He has matched his career total for wins with almost half a season remaining. more

Sweden Clarkson Bisons traveling to Cooperstown
The Sweden-Clarkson Bisons 12 and under travel baseball team was selected to participate in a baseball tournament in Cooperstown in August. Teams from across the U.S. and Canada participate in weekly tournaments at the Cooperstown All Star Village. more

Varsity teams at SHS participate in service efforts
Each of the Varsity athletic teams at Spencerport High School participated in a volunteer community service/charity project through the Spencerport Student-Athletes Care Program during the 2006-07 fall season. more
