BOCES 2 offers online options

Students at BOCES 2 Center for Workforce Development have an additional option for on-line education.

Graphic design, accounting, law and legal, business administration and instruction support for teachers are among the virtual departments. There are also certificate programs available in various fields including medical and computers. An on-line demonstration of the courses including "Creating A Successful Business Plan," "Get Assertive!" and "Solving Classroom Discipline Problems" are available.

Brockport resident Claire Franek was the first student to sign up for an on-line class and has completed her fourth class. Taking courses on-line appealed to her daughter, Emily, who is working on her fifth class. The flexibility of the classes is what attracted the Franeks to the program along with the price and variety. "If I don't feel like working on the coursework until 9 p.m. at night I can do that in the comfort of my own home," Claire said. "For $89 a class it is affordable and I'm gaining many new skills to add to my resume."

These instructor-facilitated on-line courses are project-oriented and include lessons, quizzes, hands-on assignments, discussion areas and supplementary links. Classes run for six weeks with the flexibility to attend class any time of day or night.
