Actions speak louder than words for Elementary students

Brockport Barclay Elementary School second grader Dorian Kalir follows the non-verbal directions given by Mime Artist Ricky Smith during a recent weeklong Artist-in-Residence program through Monroe 2 Orleans BOCES. Smith's actions spoke louder than words as students quickly followed his non-verbal cues. During the residency, students learned that powerful communication can be accomplished in non-verbal ways and close observation is an important part of effective communication. Smith worked with a target group of students to develop their skills in mime technique, body movement, facial expression and timing, which were demonstrated in a culminating school assembly.
