Chili Public Library receives grant for computer up-grades

Assemblymember Susan John, 131st District, secured $50,000 for the Chili Public Library, allowing the library to purchase new computers and to upgrade Internet access for Chili residents. "Susan has come forward to assist the people of Chili and our library," said Board President Ed Schuler. "Currently, the library leases its computer system and with this grant we will now be able to purchase and own the equipment and be able to offer additional resources to the community to meet their personal, educational, professional and recreational information needs."

Sixty percent of Chili's 27,000 residents own library cards and the library has experienced a double-digit increase in library traffic. With a growing senior population and the county's largest home-schooled community, the library is an extremely popular venue. "Our library is a great asset to the community, and the increase in library use is proof that we are providing the resources our patrons need," said Interim Library Director Lee Ann Sperling. "The up-grade of the computer system will allow greater access to the world outside the walls of the building. We can also expand our emphasis on assisting students and on stimulating the enthusiasm of young children for reading and learning."

The funding will purchase 35 new computers as well as help the library provide additional access to the internet with the up-grade of its server.

The Chili Library is located at 3333 Chili Avenue. For information visit the library's website at www.libraryweb.org/chili/
