CWD seeks national accreditation

The Center for Workforce Development (CWD) at BOCES 2 in Gates is a candidate for accreditation by the Council on Occupational Education (COE), a national institutional accrediting agency and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education. The mission of the council is, "assuring quality and integrity in career and technical education."

The COE is reviewing both educational offerings, as well as other characteristics of the organization. In addition, this voluntary and peer-review process allows CWD to become designated as a Title IV Educational Institution and as such eligible to receive Title IV federal funds. This will allow individuals to use tuition benefits such as the GI Bill, Job Corps, AmeriCorps vouchers, etc. or federal grants and loans to help pay for CWD Career and Technical Education programs. The adult occupational instructors and staff are engaged in the many facets to achieve national accreditation. For accreditation, the CWD full-time career education courses and processes to promote student achievement are rigorously reviewed, documented and submitted. Instructional staff meet on a weekly basis to discuss issues pertinent to instructional standards.

The CWD offers day, evening, on-line courses and customized workforce training. A Career Resource Center is available for students, which includes a career resource library, on-site job fair events, and assistance setting up interviews and writing resumes. Daytime programs include Professional Office Careers, Computer Support Specialist/Help Desk, Building Maintenance, HVAC Service Technician and Dental Assistant. Evening and on-line programs include Internet and Computing Core Certificate, A+ Certification, Network+ Certification, Certified Nurse Assistant, Dental Assistant, Phlebotomy and Lab Services, Medical Billing and Coding.
