The Alfred University women's soccer team held its season-ending banquet and presented team awards to five players. Local players were: Most Valuable Defensive Player - defender/midfielder Valerie Sherwood of Hilton. She started all year as a freshman for the Lady Saxons, and Rookie of the year - Jane Capotasto of Churchville. Capotasto is a junior who transferred to AU from Alfred State College. She started at midfield and finished the season with one assist.


Emily J. Knight of Spencerport, daughter of Joseph and Lynne Knight, and a 2005 graduate of Spencerport High School was named to the Bucknell University dean's list for the fall 2006 semester. A student must earn a grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a scale of 4.0 to receive dean's list recognition.


Daniel J. Dixon, son of Kevin and Susan Dixon of Spencerport, has been named to the fall 2006 dean's list at St. John Fisher College in Rochester. Dixon, a freshman is a corporate finance major. To be eligible for the dean's list at St. John Fisher College, a student must have attained at least a 3.5 grade-point average for the semester.


Todd R. Ford, of Brockport, was named to the dean's list for the fall 2006 semester at Alfred University. He is a junior in the College of Business. Students must earn at least a 3.3 grade point average to qualify for dean's list.

Ford is a graduate of Brockport High School.


Jolene L. Guth of Rochester was named to the dean's list for the fall 2006 semester at Alfred University. She is a sophomore in the School of Art and Design. Students must earn at least a 3.3 grade point average to qualify for dean's list.

A graduate of Holley High School, Guth is the daughter of Judy Guth of Rochester and Joseph Guth of Holley.


Jeffrey Champlin, a sophomore at St. Bonaventure University majoring in business information systems, has been named to the fall 2006 deans list.

Champlin, is the son of Mark and Barbara Champlin of Ogden. He is a 2005 graduate of Churchville-Chili High School.


Sarah Butlin of Hamlin achieved dean's list with honors with a GPA of 3.70-3.99, at SUNY College at Brockport for the fall 2006 semester. She is a 2000 graduate of Hilton High School and is the daughter of Tom and Pat Butlin.


Kristina Resch, daughter of Jim and Debbie Green of Spencerport, has been named to the fall 2006 dean's list at St. John Fisher College in Rochester. Resch, a senior, is a childhood and special education major.

To be eligible for the dean's list at St. John Fisher College, a student must have attained at least a 3.5 grade-point average for the semester


The Houghton College English Department has received a donation of rare books from Lee and Betty Frisbee of Brockport. Frisbee assembled the collection over the course of 33 years. It includes first editions of the poetry of Robert Frost and Carl Sandburg as well as volumes of their collected works, scholarly analyses and critiques of the poets' work, biographies and related items, such as magazines with cover stories on the two writers published during their lifetimes.

A Pennsylvania native, Frisbee spent his career teaching English in the Brockport Central School District before retiring in 1990.


Brendan Clifford, a student at St. John Fisher College, was named to the fall 2006 dean's list with a 3.6 grade point average. His parents are Tim and Pat Clifford of Spencerport. He is majoring in physics and chemistry and is a 2005 graduate of Spencerport High School.
