Geography Bee tests
B-B students' skills

Byron-Bergen Middle School students participated in the National Geographic Society's Geography Bee. Based on a written test taken last December students were asked to participate in our annual school level Geography Bee. On January 5, all participants answered questions in the preliminary rounds. Results were used to determine who would compete in the finals. The top two contestants, Garet Keene (front left) and Lucas DeValder, went on to compete in the final round. After several questions, Keene was declared the Geography Bee champion and was given a medal from the National Geographic Society as well as a gift card to a bookstore. DeValder received a $20 gift card for the runner-up prize. The Middle School students are pictured with Aaron Clark, Middle School social studies teacher and organizer of this competition, and Dan Bedette, Middle School Principal.

DeValder will complete a written test which will be submitted to the National Geographic Society. If his score is among the highest in the state, he will be asked to participate in the state level Bee. The winner in each state competes in the National Geography Bee in Washington, D.C. with Alex Trebek as the host.
