Brockport fire chief sworn in

Village of Brockport Mayor Mort Wexler swore in the 42nd Chief of the Brockport Fire Department and the first chief of the newly reorganized department. Timothy J. Rombaut, 39, who ran unopposed for the post, was elected by the membership in December, confirmed by the village board and took his oath of office before his personnel, family, friends and town officials from Sweden and Clarkson.

Rombaut will move up from deputy chief, a post he has held since January of 2005. He has been around firehouses his whole life. Both his father and uncle served as chiefs of the fire department. He joined the department in 1985 and has served as captain, lieutenant and in a variety of other positions. He attended training applicable to the fire service locally, at the Fire Department Instructor's Conference (FDIC) in Indianapolis, and through his employment as a heavy equipment operator with the Town of Clarkson.

Scott R. Smith, 40, was elected to the post of deputy chief. Smith has been in or around firehouses since he was a child and continues to work side by side with his dad when the pager goes off altering them to an emergency. Smith, a NYS Certified EMT, has also attended training at FDIC and is a Medic-Driver with the Ambulance Corps.

Michael J. Henry, 46, is new to the chief's ranks being elected in December to serve as assistant chief. He brings a wealth of knowledge with him. He attended FDIC, is a NYS Certified EMT and is a manager with AT&T.

EMS Battalion Chief James Toole, 34, was successful in his second bid for the position of battalion chief. He continues to supervise ambulance operations in concert with the other EMS Officers and improve the EMS presence and communications within the chiefs ranks.

The ambulances responded to 1,771 calls for service last year, the fire department answered 907 requests.
