Greater Churchville-Riga Chamber
of Commerce honors 2006 award winners

The Greater Churchville-Riga Chamber of Commerce has chosen the winners of its 2006 awards, which will be presented at its annual dinner on Thursday, March 8 at the Johnson House Restaurant.

Donna Haire, Director, and the staff of the Newman Riga Library, will receive the Citizens of the Year Award. In their nomination of Haire and her staff, Tim and Mary Ann McElligott indicated they were deserving of this honor because "they do such a great job in serving the community."

Dr. Richard Parsons, owner of Churchville Veterinary Hospital, has been selected as the Business Person of the Year. In her nomination of Dr. Parsons, Sue Davis indicted that he has been in business in Churchville for over seven years and he has "continued to thrive in the community as he offers expert animal care." She also wrote that Dr. Parsons has served in Afghanistan as a member of the Reserves. "He has done presentations at the Newman Riga Library and the Harvey C. Noone Legion Post on the time he spent in Afghanistan," Davis said.

The Ray Adams Cobblestone Community Building, which is owned by the Town of Riga, will receive the Civic Beautification award. In the nomination of the building, also submitted by Tim and Mary Ann McElligott, it was noted that the effort had been a "wonderful job and plan to save a community treasure."

Dinner will be served at 7 p.m. following social time starting at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 per person and may be purchased at the Riga Town offices, Churchville Village offices and the Johnson House Restaurant. The deadline to purchase tickets is Friday, March 2. No tickets will be available at the door.
