Holley Capital Project Committee bringing plan to state

After reviewing results from a state mandated Five-Year Building Condition Survey and conducting visual inspections of the building, the Holley Board of Education and administrative team determined that it is necessary to pursue a capital project at the High School. The building has been examined from a structural, heating and electrical, as well as health and safety standpoint. District officials formed a Capital Project Committee comprised of board members, administrators, staff, parents, community members, local business people and a student representative which has been meeting since mid-December to discuss capital project options. At its January 17 meeting, the committee agreed on a proposal that involves renovating everything to the right of the high school's main corridor (auditorium, gymnasium, technology/art room, etc.), new construction of everything presently to the left of the main corridor, then demolish the present classroom space once the new space is ready to be occupied. The new instructional area would be a two-floor plan with the high school on the first floor and the middle school on the second floor.

The committee will bring its plan to Albany the week of February 12 and meet with the State Education Department (SED) to determine the level of state aid for the project. Representatives will show them a video illustrating the needs at the high school, which will later be available for residents to view on line and during community presentations.

The Capital Project Committee's next meeting is Wednesday, February 28 at 5:30 p.m. in the Elementary School Cafeteria, For information, call the District Office at 638-6316, ext. 2003 or visit www.holleycsd.org. Community members are also encouraged to schedule a tour of the High School by calling the District Office.
