Volunteers of America seeks groups
for community-wide clothing drive

Volunteers of America is seeking groups to participate in a community-wide clothing drive on March 4 through 10, as a part of the 111th anniversary celebration of the agency's founding. The agency is hoping to engage at least 111 organizations locally to hold clothing donation drives to benefit VOA. Churches, schools, colleges, clubs, businesses and other civic groups are invited to participate. more

Mary Jane Zak will conduct the Certified Apartment Manager Program (CAM). The program begins on Thursday, April 12, from 5:45 to 9:45 p.m. for 12 consecutive Thursdays. The curriculum includes fair housing, marketing, management for residential issues, human resource management, financial management, property maintenance, risk management, legal responsibilities. more

Local update of Census Addresses (LUCA) workshop planned

Trees for sale in Hamlin
Monroe County Soil and Water (MCSW) Conservation District will be selling a variety of tree seedlings this year. Order forms are available at the Hamlin Town Clerk's Office. In conjunction with Arbor Day activities, the Hamlin Conservation Board will be offering pickup service at the Hamlin Tops, 1800 Lake Road on Saturday, April 28 from 9 to 11 a.m. for tree orders placed with MCSW. more

Assemblymember Susan John (D-131st District) voted for legislation agreed upon by the governor, Assembly and Senate that would reform the way the budget process works in Albany; allowing for more public scrutiny in what had become a process shrouded in secrecy. more

Area Montessori schools hold joint open house
The Greece Montessori School will join local Montessori schools through Monroe County in an area-wide open house to recognize the 100th anniversary of the Association of Montessori International, Monday, February 12. more

Brockport High presents popular game show
"The Nearlywed Game," a spin off of the 1970s "The Newlywed Game" will take place in the Brockport High School auditorium, 700 Central School Drive, on Monday, February 12 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $3 at the door or $2 with a coupon found on flyers in the high school. Presale tickets will be sold until February 9. more

Brother and sister team help the troops
Holley fourth-grader Tessa McArthur and her brother, second-grader Derek McArthur, are doing their part to make sure U.S. troops overseas don't feel forgotten. They spearheaded a gift and candy collection, and held a letter-writing campaign. more

C-C student art work is award winning
High school students at Churchville-Chili Central School District competed in the annual Scholastic Art and Writing competition this year and won awards for 14 of the 18 pieces of visual art they entered in the contest. There were more than 7,000 entries nationwide. more

Children get insights into theater
The Scoring Musical Theater Workshop premiered as a Hilton Parma Recreation program, Friday, January 26, with a turnout of 49 participants. Katie Sereika, a BFA musical theater major who has toured the nation with The Missoula Children's Theater, led the workshop. more

Registration held March 12-13; 19-20

Hilton Central School District will hold its Kindergarten Registration in March. Parents of children whose fifth birthday falls on or before December 1 may enroll their children in Hilton's full-day Kindergarten Program. more

Hilton High School students to play in All-County Band/Orchestra
Hilton High School instrumental music students will participate in the 2007 All County Band/Orchestra. The junior high festival, which consists of musicians in grades seven to nine, will take place at Greece Athena High School on March 16 and 17. more

Football and cheering registrations open for Jr. Hawks in Holley
The Jr. Hawks in Holley are seeking boys and girls interested in playing football and in participating in cheering. The programs are open to all residents and non-residents. To be eligible the child must be seven years old before August 1 and no older than 15 by November 15, 2007. more

Golden Eagles beat Lakers
Brett Giehl and Don Ooten recorded pins and Eric Van Patten won via technical fall as Brockport defeated Oswego 31-9 in collegiate wrestling. The Golden Eagles (4-2) clinched a winning season for the 45th consecutive season - the second largest active streak in collegiate wrestling behind only Oklahoma State's 46-year streak. more

Hamlin Recreation offers summer soccer and baseball programs

On Saturday, February 10, the Knights of Columbus from St. Leo Church in Hilton, council #9461, will be hosting the District Championships for the annual K of C Free Throw Championship. more

Leopards beat Eagles in basketball
Kendall held the early lead and trailed by just two after one quarter, but managed only eight points on offense over the next two quarters and fell to three-time Section Five defending division champion Greece Olympia 49-24 in girl's basketball. more

Saints wrestlers fall to Titans
Churchville-Chili received pins from Charlie Morone, Paul Salmin and Rory Conedy, but dropped a 34-28 decision to Greece Arcadia in varsity wrestling. more
