Children get insights into theater

The Scoring Musical Theater Workshop premiered as a Hilton Parma Recreation program, Friday, January 26, with a turnout of 49 participants. Katie Sereika, a BFA musical theater major who has toured the nation with The Missoula Children's Theater, led the workshop. She was accompanied by three other SUNY Fredonia musical theater majors, Amy Van Deusen, Aaron Muserallo and Joanna Hernandez.

The purpose of this eight-hour workshop was to teach children ages 8-12 how to use their minds, bodies and voices to display the true meaning of theater. Throughout the day, the participants achieved this through a series of re-enactment activities, storytelling, self portraits, as well as musical and dance numbers to some of Disney's classics.

At the end of the day, parents attended a short performance of the song "We're All in This Together," from the popular hit, High School Musical.
