Golden Eagles beat Lakers

Brett Giehl and Don Ooten recorded pins and Eric Van Patten won via technical fall as Brockport defeated Oswego 31-9 in collegiate wrestling. The Golden Eagles (4-2) clinched a winning season for the 45th consecutive season - the second largest active streak in collegiate wrestling behind only Oklahoma State's 46-year streak.

Van Patten began the match at 174 lbs. with a 16-0 technical fall and Giehl, ranked sixth in the nation in his weight class, followed with a pin in 3:27 at 184 lbs. Ooten, also ranked sixth, registered a first period pin at 149 lbs. in 2:16.

Fifth ranked Rob Vaccaro took an 11-5 decision at 125 lbs. and freshman Josh Bellinger scored multiple points in the second and third period for an 11-1 win at 133 lbs. Holley grad Andrew Grillo took a 9-3 decision at 157 lbs. and Shaheim Bradshaw (8th ranked) won a 13-4 major decision at 165 lbs. to finish the match.

The Golden Eagles, ranked 11th in the nation prior to the match, are getting ready for the Empire Championships February 16-17 and the NCAA Championships March 2-3.
