A little friendly competition took place at the Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES Career and Technical Education Center January 16-19. Students in every trade competed against their classmates in competitions made up by their teachers. In culinary arts, for example, students were graded on meals they prepared and in cosmetology, the person who did the best updo moves on to the next level. The highest-scoring Skills USA member, a national nonprofit organization serving teachers and high school and college students preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations, will go to Alfred in March to compete against students from other technical schools. The top two students from each morning and afternoon class received medals during an awards presentation on January 19.
