Clarkson Justice Court Clerk Sharon S. Mattison filed for a grant through the New York State Unified Justice Court Assistance Program because the Town of Clarkson was looking to upgrade the computer system and the aging copier for the justice court. more

Churchville village residents to see tax increase
Residents of the Village of Churchville will see an increase in their village tax bill due to a higher tax rate in the 2007-2008 tax budget. Mayor Donald Ehrmentraut said the increase is due in most part to costs associated with the proposed construction of a new fire department building on Washington Street near the Riga Town Hall. more

Hamlin wind tower committee faces overflow crowd
Questions, criticism and bewilderment characterized the exchanges made by attendees in the full-to-overflowing meeting room at the Town of Hamlin offices during the February 20 wind tower committee meeting. Several individuals called for the meeting to be canceled and rescheduled at a larger venue so those individuals who were forced to stand in the hall could hear and have their comments heard. more

Fluffy is enjoying his nine lives
Dolores Bellimer and Marilyn Lage share an interest in Fluffy, a cat who went missing for six months and five days. Fluffy escaped from a carrier, held by Dolores, his owner and Brockport resident, on the way to be treated by a vet for raccoon bites. more

Monroe County will host information sessions for residents interested in foster parenting. The sessions, which are open for anyone over age 21, typically last an hour. more

Spencerport grad to sing at Strong Museum
Spencerport High School 2003 graduate Kerri Lynn Slominski will perform operetta solos in an upcoming Strong National Museum of Play "Making American Music" concert series on March 14 at 7:30 p.m. The concert also features Eastman School instructors. An admission fee is charged. more

Holley awarded state Learning Technology grant
Holley Central School District has been awarded a New York State Learning Technology Grant in the amount of $49,916 per year for three years. The district will share the grant with Brockport Central School District and Sandy Creek Academy, however Holley will receive the bulk of the grant, which is $38,862 per year, $116, 586 over the course of three years. more

"Math-A-Thon" helps skills, aids hospital
Hilton's Northwood Elementary School students raised $6,268.16 through the school's annual "Math-A-Thon" for donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, according to teacher Jerry Adduci. more

Former Brockport Blue Devil and now SUNY Brockport track and field star Tara Pouthavongsa set one school record at the New York State Championships and broke another mark at the SUNYAC Championships on back-to-back days last week. more

Senior Jake Russell scored 11 of his team-high 17 points in the second half, including three three-pointers in the third quarter, as Brockport defeated Canandaigua 55-48 in the first round of the Class AA Section Five boy's basketball tournament. more

Cadets take Bracket title
After getting in early foul trouble in the semi-finals, senior Mike Fowler netted 24 points to lead Hilton to a 55-47 victory over Brighton to win the Bracket Two championship. The Cadets had little trouble beating Pittsford-Mendon 70-54 in the first round. more

Coach Mark Renfer awarded David Carmestro the first McPhee Scholarship. The scholarship has been founded by the McPhee family in honor of their son, Ryan, who died last year. more

Former Hilton basketball player scores 1,000th collegiate point
Marisa Clark (Hilton '04), who led Hilton to its first ever Section V Girls Basketball Title in 2003, now in her junior year at Medaille College in Buffalo, scored her 1000th point as the starting point guard for the 22nd ranked Medaille Mavericks Women's Basketball Team, February 17 at Hilbert College in a 70-41 win. more

The Bright Raven Gymnastics girls optional teams traveled to Binghamton February 9 to compete in the I Love NY Cup at Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena. more
