Churchville resident and Allendale Columbia School senior John Brimlow received the highest score of 93 on the school's annual Current Events Exam, a completely voluntary exam designed to showcase student knowledge of current events around the world. Every year, the school's history department designs the exam for its sixth grade through twelfth grade students. A long-standing tradition at the school, about 250 students took the exam this year, which included 100 multiple-choice questions and a few matching sections.

To recognize his achievement, Brimlow received a plaque at recent awards ceremony at the school.


Gregory Strabel has been named to the dean's list at Cornell University's College of Arts and Sciences for the fall semester. Strabel earned a 4.04 grade point average while pursuing a double major in economics and mathematics.

He is the son of David and Leisa Strabel of Brockport and a 2006 graduate of Brockport High School. His grandparents are George and Marilyn Strabel and Lawrence and the late Lola Wood.


Rachael M. Cunningham of Rochester was named to the dean's list at Daemen College for the fall 2006 semester. A matriculated undergraduate student who attains a grade point average of 3.30 or better in any one semester is eligible for dean's list status.


Amber Young of Holley has achieved the dean's list with a GPA of 3.40-3.69 at SUNY College at Brockport for the fall of 2006. She is a 2002 graduate of Holley High School and is the daughter and step daughter of Pam Young and Fred Kimmel and the daughter of David Young. She will graduate cum laude in May 2007 with her bachelor's degree in international studies.


Mark Garofalo of Ogden has achieved the dean's list with honors with a GPA of 3.70-3.99 at SUNY College at Brockport for fall 2006. He is a 2004 graduate of Churchville-Chili High School and is the son of Lori Garofalo of Ogden.


Nicole Barrett of Hilton has achieved the dean's list with a GPA of 3.40-3.69 at SUNY College at Brockport for fall 2006. She is a 2004 graduate of Hilton High School and is the daughter of Tim and Colleen Barrett.


William R. Breon, from Churchville, has been named to the dean's list for the fall 2006 semester at John Carroll University.

Students eligible for the dean's list must have completed a minimum of 12 semester hours within one semester and have a quality grade point average of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.


Hartwick College first year student Lee Sabo of Holley, son of Carmen and Wesley Sabo, participated in the January Term Off-Campus Program "Theatre in New York City." Students enrolled in Hartwick's J Term course learn about the basic elements of theater in an on-campus course and then spend a week in New York City where they attend plays, tour theater sites and meet with theater professionals.

Sabo is majoring in theatre arts.


Will Mitchell of Brockport has achieved the dean's list with honors with a GPA of 3.70-3.99, at SUNY College at Brockport for fall 2006. He is a 2005 graduate of Brockport High School and is the son of Brad and Molly Mitchell.


Samantha Davis of Brockport was named to the dean's list at Daemen College for the fall 2006 semester.


Dan Spaulding, majoring in mechanical engineering, a 2005 graduate of Churchville-Chili Senior High School, was named to the Grove City College's dean's list for the fall 2006 semester. He is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Kevin Spaulding of Spencerport.

To qualify for the dean's list, a student must have an average of 3.4 out of a possible 4.0, or better than a B+ grade.


SUNY Potsdam students have been recognized for their achievements by being named to the dean's list or president's list. To achieve the president's list, each student must have satisfactorily completed 12 numerically graded semester hours that semester with a minimum grade point average of 3.5.

President's list students: Ashley Rae Close of Rochester, daughter of David Close of Rochester and Jean Close of Rochester; Brian C. Rebman of Rochester, son of Steve and Patricia Rebman of Rochester; Christopher Andrew Albano of Spencerport, son of Richard and Nancy Albano of Spencerport and Laura Michelle Osgood of Spencerport, daughter of Lori Osgood of Spencerport.

Dean's list student: Sean Clifford Conlon, of Spencerport, son of Russ Conlon of Spencerport.


Sean Michael Dray of Spencerport earned his music education degree cum laude from SUNY Potsdam.


Brendan Gaesser of Kendall was placed on the dean's list for the fall 2006 semester at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.

To be eligible for the dean's honor list, matriculated students must be enrolled in six or more credit courses, attain a grade point average of 3.25 or better and have no incomplete grades.


Sara K. Scott has been selected to perform with the American Choral Directors' Association National Multicultural Honor Choir at the Jackie Gleason Theater in Miami, Florida on March 10 under the direction of Rollo Dilworth and Francisco Nunes.

A sophomore music education major at Mansfield University, Mansfield, Pennsylvania, Scott is a voice student of Dr. Youngsuck Kim and sings with the Mansfield University Concert Choir under the direction of Dr. Peggy Diane Dettwiler. Sara performed with the Concert Choir at the National Collegiate Choral Convention in San Antonio, Texas in November 2006.

A 2005 graduate of Brockport High School, Scott is the daughter of James and Mary Scott of Brockport.


Mary Lobene of the Spencerport Nothnagle Office was named to the Top 30 Club at a luncheon held on January 26 at the Double Tree Inn. She was also named Nothnagle's top westside agent for 2006.

Mary Lobene has been with Nothnagle Realtors for 20 years and maintains her achievement with the company as a multi-million dollar producer in residential home sales. She has also received the Sales Master Gold Award along with charting several months of Top Sales Person of the month for 2006.


Janet Campbell of the Spencerport Nothnagle Office has been recognized as the office's #2 agent.

Campbell specializes in residential and new construction sales and is currently representing Iuppa Homes, Inc. builder Rich Iuppa. Iuppa Homes, Inc. offer two subdivisions, Taylor Farms in Churchville and Northview Homes in Brockport/Sweden, located off 31 A west of Redman Road. Campbell is also active in listing and selling existing homes in western Monroe County.

Among other recogniztions, Campbell has been listed in Nothnagle's "Top 25," and earned the Zenith Award, Sales Master Gold award and is a member of Nothnagle's Gold Club.


Al and Cheryl Honan, Realtor Associates with Prudential Discover of Spencerport, have been named top selling agents for the month of January. Both have won this award many times and are multi-million dollar producers. They both are life long residents of Spencerport.


Air National Guard Senior Airman Chad A. Carlton is deployed overseas at a forward-operating location in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

He is the son of Donn and Donna Carlton of Hamlin. His wife, Andrea, is the daughter of Cal and Jackie Rowe of Clearfield, Utah. Carlton is a 1997 graduate of Brockport High School.
