SUNY Brockport student to work at Google™

SUNY College at Brockport senior Momchil Kyurkchiev has been hired at Google for a full-time position. The May 2007 graduate's career as a software engineer at Google™ will begin in September.

Kyurkchiev is a triple major at SUNY Brockport, studying computer science, computational science and mathematics. He is the president of the Math Club, an Honors Program student and has served as the Honors Club Junior Representative. He also works at ITS Web services at the college, developing computer applications for the campus.

"What makes him stand out in the eyes of potential graduate schools and employers is the fact that he has taken advantage of several opportunities the department offers students to grow academically," said Professor and Chair of the Department of Computer Science Kad Lakshmanan.

From May to August last year, Kyurkchiev interned at the Google™ headquarters located in the heart of the Silicon Valley, in Mountain View, California, just outside of San Francisco. There he worked on developing and redesigning the AdWords home page, an advertising trademark of Google™. "The atmosphere is very relaxed," Kyurkchiev said. "It is very inviting to be creative and welcomes teamwork."

At the end of last summer's internship, Kyurkchiev was interviewed again and offered a permanent position one month later. "I am very excited," Kyurkchiev said. "It's challenging work, but rewarding."

Originally from Rousse, Bulgaria, Kyurkchiev came to the United States to study at SUNY Brockport as a Distinguished Scholarship recipient.
