Brockport's Pouthavongsa sets records

Former Brockport Blue Devil and now SUNY Brockport track and field star Tara Pouthavongsa set one school record at the New York State Championships and broke another mark at the SUNYAC Championships on back-to-back days last week.

The junior set a new school record as she garnered 3,243 points at Cornell University, placing her fourth in Division III. The day prior, she jumped 1.68 meters in the high jump to set another school mark and again place fourth in Division III.

In total, Pouthavongsa placed in the top six in four different events at the SUNYAC meet: Sixth in the 55-meter hurdles, third in the triple jump and second in both the long jump and high jump. While at Brockport High, she set and still holds the Section V indoor record for the high jump - 5 feet 10 inches in 2003.

Teammate Shannon O'Keefe won the triple jump with a school record 11.62 meter leap and Nicole Sosnoski took second. Jake Basher and Josh Dupuis both took top honors for the Golden Eagles men in the weight throw and shot put respectively.

Pouthavongsa and her teammates will participate in the ECAC Championships March 2 and 3 at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut and the NCAA Championships to be held March 9 and 10 at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Indiana.
