Spencerport Fire Department receives insurance settlement

The Spencerport Fire District received a fire insurance settlement check for $1.4 million March 7 at Spencerport Insurance offices. Michael White, (left) marketing manager for broker McNeil & Company from Cortland, NY, delivered the check from the Arch Insurance Company for the loss of Station 1 on Lyell Avenue. On hand to accept the money were Spencerport Fire Commissioners Gary Barton and Jim McKinney (second and third from left). McKinney is the district’s treasurer. Linda Rauber of Spencerport Insurance is shown at right presenting the check. The district earlier received $100,000 in coverage for the fire station destroyed in a blaze August 11, 2006. Barton said the fire district hopes to start construction at the end of the summer on the new $5.2 million Station 1 approved by voters in a referendum in December 2006. The project has not yet been considered by the village planning or zoning board. Photograph by Walter Horylev.
