Local man part of city bridge design team

Steve Percassi Jr., an Associate Structural Engineer, is framed by the Troup-Howell Bridge in downtown Rochester. Part of the design team which worked on this bridge from 2000 to 2004, he lives in Churchville and works for Erdman Anthony and Associates, Inc. Currently, he helps in inspecting and making sure the bridge construction is properly done, in collaboration with engineers from Ravi Engineers and Bergman Associates. The Erdman Anthony Company was responsible for construction support, especially while the arches were being put up in 2005. The City of Rochester has naming rights for the bridge, according to Percassi.

The Troup-Howell Bridge construction began in May 2004 and, weather permitting, the final concrete floor on the westbound lane of the bridge should be poured in April or May, with traffic using all four lanes, in both directions, sometime in June 2007. Sam Anthony, Structures Department manager from Erdman Anthony, said the bridge is about 432 feet in length, (the spring line, from arch pin to arch pin), 107 feet in width and the height is around 98 feet from the river to the top of the middle arch. Seeing the $38 million project take shape captivated travelers as well as designers. "The project has been going well and public opinion has been very supportive. The biggest thing for me was to work on the design for three years and seeing that become an actual structure and in our own back yard."
