Public hearing set on Hamlin wind tower moratorium

A public hearing to gather information from the public on a potential moratorium on wind tower construction will be held at the Hamlin Town Hall on Monday, March 12 beginning at 7 p.m. The public hearing will be held as part of the regular board meeting.

The moratorium discussed will be on the "filing or processing applications for wind towers and upon construction of wind towers until January 15, 2008," as noted on the board meeting agenda.

The moratorium is being considered to allow the newly formed Wind Tower Committee time to explore the pros and cons of the towers being located within the town limits. The committee meets twice monthly - one meeting as a workshop and one as a public forum. The Wind Tower Committee held its work session on March 6. The meeting, open to public comment, is planned for March 20 at 7 p.m. at the town hall.

CVP, Inc. wants to erect wind towers in the areas of Morton, Redman, Moscow and County Line Road within the town. There are 120 houses adjacent to the area proposed for the wind tower construction. (No formal proposal has been presented to the town as yet).
