Three scouts
earn Eagle ranks

Three boys from Troop 165 in Spencerport were sworn in as Eagle Scouts in 2006. The boys are residents of Spencerport and Gates. They are Johnny McGreevy, John Stoffel and Doug Hampton. The Charter Organization (sponsor) for Troop 165 is St. John the Evangelist Church of Spencerport.

Each of them met and exceeded requirements for this award and rank promotion, including a community service project which must be conceived, planned and led by the candidate. Johnny McGreevy planned and led the construction of a memorial and walkway at St. Jude's in Gates.

John Stoffel led the building of a brick path and garden around an existing gazebo at Hickory Hollow in Spencerport . Doug Hampton made repairs and upgraded the pond and courtyard in the Nature Center at the Taylor Elementary School in Ogden.

All three young men continue to serve in the troop as leaders of the program, in addition to school, church, community and sports activities.

Hampton will be attending SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry to study Wildlife Biology/Management. McGreevy will study Aerospace Engineering. Stoffel is a junior and wishes to work for NASA.
