Horsington headed to NCAA meet

Fredonia State senior Scott Horsington (Churchville-Chili) has qualified for the NCAA Division III Men's Swimming and Diving Championships.

Horsington will participate in one-meter and three-meter springboard diving when athletes from around the country descend March 15-17 on the University of Houston Recreation Center. Twenty-two divers are entered in each event.

"Coach (John) Crawford and I are extremely proud of Scott and his selection to the NCAA meet," Fredonia State head coach Arthur Wang said. "We were pleasantly surprised to see his name on the selection list. I was trying to be optimistic about his chances, however, he did not win the conference this year. This could be an impressive end to Scott's diving career with a chance of finishing as an All-American."

This marks the second time Horsington has had diving scores certified by an independent panel of judges. He qualified for nationals as a freshman in 2004, but opted out of the meet due to a previous academic commitment. He did not participate in the sport the past two seasons.

Horsington was SUNYAC diver of the year as a freshman. With a double major, he carries a 3.91 GPA and decided to get on the team again his senior year to shoot for Nationals. He also still holds the diving records for Churchville-Chili.
