Spencerport athletic director
to receive NIAAA State Award of Merit

John F. Pelin has been selected by the New York State Athletic Administrators Association (NYSAAA) as the 2007 recipient of the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA) State Award of Merit.

Pelin, who is the director of physical education and athletics of the Spencerport Central School District, will receive the award on March 16 at the NYSAAA Conference Banquet at the Saratoga Hotel in Saratoga Springs, New York.

This is the 20th year for the NIAAA State Award of Merit program, which will recognize one NIAAA member in athletic directors associations in the 50 states plus the District of Columbia. The State Award of Merit winners are selected based on their leadership and long-term contributions to interscholastic athletics at the local and state levels.

Pelin has been involved with interscholastic athletics for nearly 18 years. In addition to his work at Spencerport, he served as boys sports coordinator for the Monroe County Pubic School Athletic Association. Pelin has maintained a variety of positions within the NYSAAA including program chairperson and president. He won the association's Chapter 5 "Athletic Administrator of the Year Award" in 1999. In 2001, he served on the NIAAA Blue Ribbon Panel.
