Educational expert to speak at Byron-Bergen

Educators from the Genesee Valley BOCES region are invited to attend a series of workshops on the topic of Response To Intervention (RTI) on Friday, March 23 at Byron-Bergen High School. The guest presenter is Dr. James L. McDougal, assistant professor of counseling and psychological services at SUNY Oswego and a noted expert in the emerging field of RTI.

McDougal's first presentation will be at 8:30 a.m. on the subject of RTI for instructional support teams at the middle and high school levels. This segment will focus on what teachers and administrators need to understand about successful intervention practices. From 9:30-10:45 a.m. McDougal will meet with Kindergarten-12 administrators to discuss their roles in RTI, including progress monitoring and problem-solving with teachers.

Following lunch, McDougal will spend 90 minutes with kindergarten-sixth educators to review the three-tiered approach and progress monitoring.

Teachers and administrators interested in attending one or more of the March 23 sessions should call Loren Penman, Byron-Bergen director of learning, at 494-1220, extension 3110 for information.
