Spencerport teacher recognized as top educator

High School Language teacher Melanie Thomas earned National Board Certification, the highest credential in teaching, becoming the third teacher at Spencerport recognized among the top educators in the country. "I believe the work has encouraged me to continue reflecting on my teaching practices and encourage students to work to the best of their ability and then push themselves to show their ability," Thomas said.

"Melanie represents the high standards we are trying to achieve in Spencerport," said Superintendent of Schools Mary Anne Kermis. "Her recognition is an example of the commitment made by our teachers to provide a quality education to our students."

Thomas credits her Spencerport colleagues Jenn Mongold and fellow Language teacher Marie Campanaro (NBCT 2003) as inspirations. Earlier this school year, a third Spencerport NBCT teacher left the district to become an elementary school principal.
