Gymnasts win at Niagara Cup

Bright Raven Gymnastics girl's teams traveled to Buffalo March 9-11 for the 2007 Niagara Cup at Canisius College and won many individual and team honors.

Bright Raven's Level 4 Team took first place with a team total of 188.575. In the 9-11 age division, Allison Prem of Hilton took first place on balance beam (9.65), third place on the uneven parallel bars (9.25) and second all around (37.75). Tess Diskin of LeRoy took first place on vault (9.95) and second on bars (9.30). Hannah Thomas of North Chili took third place on beam (9.425).

In the 12 and over Age Division, Sarah Daniels of Churchville, was first in floor exercise (9.50), second on bars (9.225), third on vault (9.65) and second all around (37.425) Madeline Kopp of Spencerport earned third place on bars (9.10). In the 6-8 age division, Julia Shire of Chili took second on both bars (9.15) and beam (9.45).

Bright Raven's Level 6 team was awarded second place totaling 179.40 finishing less than one point behind Galaxy Gymnastics (180.175) from downstate. In the 10-11 age division, Megan Stevens of Brockport earned first place in three events: bars (9.00), beam (9.30) and floor (9.425). Her all around score of 36.225 was also the highest in her division, earning her the first place all around trophy. Amanda Lee of Henrietta earned second place on beam (8.85), third on bars (8.45) and third all around (34.95). Jessica Carder of Walworth earned third place in floor exercise (9.35).

In the 12 and over age division, Kristina Schiffhauer of Greece finished first all around (35.475).

In the individual events, Schiffhauer took first on bars (9.0), second on vault (9.10) and second on floor (8.875). Carly King of Churchville was second all around (35.125) and was also first on floor (9.10), third on vault (9.00) and third on beam (9.10). Hannah Fouts of Brighton won first place on vault (9.15) and was second on beam (9.175). Danielle Adam of Greece took first on beam (9.275). Amber Rice of Brockport placed second on bars (8.60).

In the Level 9 competition for ages 16 and older, Kerry Apeland of Chili earned second place all around scoring 35.875. In the Level 10 competition for ages 9-15, Taline Lahcanski of Penfield placed sixth all around with a score of 36.05. In the Level 7 competition for ages 13 and older, Hailey Clark of Henrietta earned third place in two events: bars (9.125) and floor exercise (9.425).

In the Level 5 competition for ages 12 and older, Rebecca Lloyd of Rush placed second all around (36.40) and second on floor (9.45). Nicole Bell of Gates was second on bars (9.20).

Nikole Van Wie of Brockport was third on vault (9.375) and Olivia Weber of Hilton was third on beam (9.35). In the 7-9 age division, Alison Steinmetz of Greece was second on vault (9.375).
