SUNY officials visit Genesee Community College in May

Genesee Community College's 40th Anniversary Convocation, scheduled for Thursday, May 3 at 1 p.m. features Dr. Risa Palm, Provost of the State University of New York.

Palm will give the keynote address. The college's former presidents and retired faculty and staff members will be guests at the Convocation, which is a formal academic ceremony marking a special event or milestone in the life of a college or university. Genesee's last convocation was held in 1991.

At the college's annual Commencement Ceremony, scheduled Sunday, May 20 at 1 p.m., the current Chancellor of the State University of New York, John R. Ryan, retired U.S. Navy Vice Admiral, will be the Class of 2007's commencement speaker.

Ryan has served in his current post since 2005. He has also served as president of the state University of New York Maritime College and as Interim President of the University at Albany. Prior to his service with SUNY, he was the superintendent (president) of the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis. Ryan will leave his SUNY post May 31.
