Clarendon
Lions Club news

Chartered in 1998, the Clarendon Lions Club has 29 members who volunteer their time to perform a variety of community service activities. The group is one of approximately 45,000 clubs that make up Lions Club International.

The Clarendon Lions have assisted residents in obtaining needed eye care and combined with other clubs within the local district, are in the process of purchasing a special camera which is used to detect early signs of eye disease in children. Worldwide, Lions are dedicated to aiding the blind and visually impaired through programs such as the Recycle For Sight used eyeglasses recycling program. The Lions' Eye Glass collection boxes at the eye doctor's office and other places have collected more than 40,000 pairs of glasses for needy people.

Since 1998, the Clarendon Lions Club has held activities like its Sausage sales (coming June 1 and 2) and Geranium sales (May 11-12, 18-19) to raise money to put back into our community. Through contributions, the club has "redonated" more than $10,000 in the last year to service organizations. Some of those include the ARC and Hospice organizations of Orleans County, the Holley Library and the Clarendon Fire Department and Emergency squads. It also provided scholarship funds to several area high school students planning to major in service-oriented studies.

The Club hosts the CFD Bingo concession, Monday nights at the Clarendon Recreation Hall or at regular meetings, held at the Clarendon Town Hall at 16385 Church Street, every second and fourth Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. (excluding summer months). Contact club members at Clarendon Lions Club, P.O. Box 34, Clarendon, NY 14429 or through club President, Bob Dexter at 682-3294.
