New crime-fighting and safety equipment given to police officers in Greece and Brockport

The Greece and the Brockport Police Departments will receive new high-tech video and safety equipment through the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) Commercial Equipment Direct Assistance Program.

"I'm pleased this equipment is coming to Greece and Brockport to provide our police officers the tools they need to do their important work as effectively and safely as possible," Congressman Thomas Reynolds said. "Our police officers lay their lives on the line for our safety, and in return they must be given the best tools available to protect themselves and those they serve."

Administered by DHS, the Commercial Equipment Direct Assistance Program (CEDAP) helps provide law enforcement and emergency responders from smaller jurisdictions and metropolitan areas specialized equipment and training. Through the program, the Greece Police Department will receive $33,100 to purchase a Video Detective System, a high-tech imaging tool, and the Brockport Police Department will receive a CEDAP Personal Protective Equipment Kit to enhance the safety of its officers.

In an effort to strengthen the nation's overall level of preparedness in towns large and small, CEDAP will provide equipment and training to over 2,000 first-responder agencies this year across the United States. The equipment offered by CEDAP includes: personal protective equipment; thermal imaging, night vision and video surveillance tools; chemical and biological detection tools; information technology and risk management tools; and, interoperable communications equipment.
