Genesee Community College hosts CARE Fair

Genesee Community College's CARE Fair, on April 10 from 12-2 p.m. in the College Forum plays host to agencies in the Genesee, Livingston, Orleans and Wyoming county region that will showcase the opportunities that exist for volunteer and service work. "So many times we hear: If I only knew where I could serve," said Marie Iglesias-Cardinale, Associate Professor of English and Chair of the Service Learning Committee. "We hope the CARE Fair will show students, faculty and staff where they can go to volunteer or get service."

Some of the agencies that will attend include Genesee County Mental Health Services, Genesee Orleans Planned Parenthood, Wyoming County Office of the Aging and Rape Crisis Services of Livingston County.

Students will be exhibiting current service learning projects throughout the CARE Fair, such as genograms (family trees) where they have found similarities between themselves and their ancestors. This assignment helps students see a genetic connection and its impact on society.

For information about the CARE Fair, or to register an organization for a table, contact Marie Iglesias-Cardinale at (585) 343-0055 ext. 6275 or micardinale@genesee.edu.
