Holley Board adopts budget for 2007-08 school year

On March 21, the final budget workshop of Holley Board of Education was concluded with the unanimous adoption of a fiscal budget for the 2007-08 school year.

Based on the current state aid figures, the estimated tax rate increase is approximately 32 cents per $1,000 of property value. Since the two largest towns in the Holley School District, Clarendon and Murray, have completed reevaluations of all real property, the estimated tax rate impact will be different for each property owner.

A factor that could decrease the 32-cent figure is the increase in the STAR state aid real property exemption found in Governor Eliot Spitzer's proposed budget. The final state aid to the Holley School District is yet to be determined.

"We have worked very hard to produce a budget that is both educationally sound and one that the community can afford. I wish to commend the Board of Education for recognizing that and adopting the budget," said Superintendent Robert D'Angelo. "I look forward to meeting with members of the community in the days and weeks ahead to discuss the budget, and I urge them to contact me with any questions they may have."

Any group interested in hearing a budget presentation may contact District Clerk Cece Swanger at 638-6316, ext. 2003 to schedule a time. Holley residents will vote on the school budget on Tuesday, May 15 from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the high school foyer.
