Community center concepts under discussion in Hilton-Parma
The preliminary information-gathering has been going on for about seven years but progress is being made toward defining specifications for the possible construction of a community center in the Hilton-Parma area. more

EPA continues clean-up at Diaz site
So far, close to $9 million has been spent in “cleaning up the sins of the past” Mike Basile, EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) community involvement coordinator said of the continuing efforts to clean up the Diaz plant site in Holley. more

Lakeside Care Center receives equipment grant
Lakeside Beikirch Care Center received $7,250 from the John F. Wegman Fund of Rochester Area Community Foundation for its Quality of Life Project. The goal of this project was to improve the quality of life for Lakeside Beikirch residents by purchasing a bladder scanner to assess and prevent urological related issues common among those who are residents in long term care facilities, as well as decrease health care dollars spent on treatment of urological problems. more

Volunteers sought for hurricane recovery team
A team of volunteers from the Hilton area will be traveling to the Mississippi or Louisiana coast to help with recovery from the hurricane destruction. The trip is planned for November 2007. There is a planning meeting scheduled for Tuesday, April 24 at 7 p.m. at the Hilton United Methodist Church, 21 West Avenue, Hilton. If you are unable to attend the planning meeting but are interested in volunteering or assisting with fund-raising, contact the church office at 392-8761, leave name, phone number and address. more

Participants needed for Hamlin Wheel Fest parade
The Hamlin Wheel Fest is celebrating its 10th anniversary and organizers are encouraging individuals to join the celebration by participating in the Wheel Fest Parade. Groups or individuals are invited. Groups are encouraged to "use your imagination, bring your wheels, decorate your bicycles or bring a float." more

The Kiwanis Club of Spencerport was recently honored as a distinguished club by the New York District of Kiwanis International. more

Sweden/Clarkson recognizes Person of the Year
Steve Appleton will be recognized as Person of the Year at the 25th Community Awards Banquet Wednesday, April 18 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at the Sweden/Clarkson Community Center, 4927 Lake Road, Brockport. more

Six candidates of the Knights of Columbus Council #7707, Spencerport, participated in their Third Degree Ceremony in Auburn on Saturday, March 31. more

Welcome Center seeks greeters
The Welcome Center on the canalfront in Brockport will open for its third season Tuesday, May 1 at 10 a.m. The Erie Canal begins its season that same day. more

County Legislator Dick Yolevich (R-Parma) presented Dr. Thomas Dimitry with a proclamation at the last meeting of the Monroe County Legislature on April 10. more

Absentee ballots available for school district vote
Spencerport Central School District residents unable to vote in person on Tuesday, May 15 may request applications for absentee ballots by contacting the Spencerport Central School District Clerk's office at 349-5110, or in person at District Office, 71 Lyell Avenue in Spencerport. more

Students jump rope for Heart Association
Students at Hilton Central jumped for heart as 130 of the school's elementary students participated in the annual Jump Rope-A-Thon for Heart along with their parents. A variety of aerobic activities were done by the students including jump-roping, Jake the snake, pogo sticks, jumping with skip-its and hula hoops, mini-trampolines and dancing to help fight heart disease and stroke. more

Families and friends of the Holley Elementary Band came together to celebrate "music in our schools" month by performing on stage together at a special concert. more

Shooting hoops for a cause
The Churchville-Chili Leo Club and Churchville Lions Club conducted their annual March Madness benefit basketball game to raise funds for the Grana family. more

The Holley Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society welcomed 15 new members. more

at SUNY Commencement Ceremony

Garth Fagan, founder and artistic director of Garth Fagan Dance and SUNY Brockport Distinguished Professor Emeritus, will receive an honorary doctorate at SUNY Brockport's 140th Undergraduate Commencement exercises, Saturday, May 12. more

Holley Middle School "locks in" to raise funds for troops
Holley Middle School students are going to be spending a Friday night at school not only to have fun, but to support the troops. After a field trip to see the movie "Freedom Writers," the students decided they wanted to find a way to make a difference. more

Holley adds classroom days
The Holley Board of Education approved calendar changes to compensate for days missed due to bad weather. Friday, May 25 is now a full day session for all K through 12 students. Thursday, June 14 and Friday, June 15 will be half-day sessions for K through 6 students only. more

Electrifying workshop at Kendall Elementary
“Professor Jesse,” aka Jesse Wilson, a student in a masters program at Roberts Wesleyan College, addressed Mrs. DeLettera’s fourth-grade class at Kendall Elementary School during a workshop in electricity. more

Chain Gang donates baby items
The Chili Senior Center "Chain Gang" donated 15 baskets filled with baby items which will be presented to new moms delivering at Lakeside Memorial Hospital. more

Stretch and Strengthen - every Tuesday; first Tuesdays at 3 p.m. and at 1:30 p.m. the others. This free program is offered by Agape Physical Therapy. more

Gymnasts advance in USA competition
Five members of the Bright Raven Gymnastics Team have qualified to advance to USAG Regional competition by earning high all-around scores at the Level 9/10 State Championships held March 31-April 1 at Shaker High School in Latham, New York. more
