Grants for youth community service projects available

Youth organizations in Monroe County are invited to apply for a $1,000 grant to implement a community service project during their summer vacation.

The county administers this project through the Youth Bureau's "Youth As Resources" initiative. Funding for these projects is provided through a grant the County obtained from the Rochester Area Community Foundation.

Past community service projects have included: making a playground more handicap accessible, making teddy bears for children when they ride in an ambulance, holding a health fair, building a skating ramp, and refurbishing a basketball court.

The applications are available online on the Monroe County website, monroecounty.gov. Applications are due May 18 by 5 p.m. at 111 Westfall Road, Suite 814, Rochester, NY 14620. All applicants must be between the ages of 10 and 21 years old and be affiliated with a 501(c)(3) organization.

Individuals can contact the Youth Bureau's YAR Coordinator, Keisha French, at (585) 753-6456 or kfrench@monroecounty.gov for a copy of the application or with questions.
