Lakeside Care Center receives equipment grant

Lakeside Beikirch Care Center received $7,250 from the John F. Wegman Fund of Rochester Area Community Foundation for its Quality of Life Project. The goal of this project was to improve the quality of life for Lakeside Beikirch residents by purchasing a bladder scanner to assess and prevent urological related issues common among those who are residents in long term care facilities, as well as decrease health care dollars spent on treatment of urological problems.

During the past year, a 42 percent reduction in performing invasive procedures was realized, which improved the quality of life for residents, saved health care dollars and increased recreational activities with fellow residents and staff. Without the use of the bladder scanner, all of these residents would have undergone catheterization and would have been at increased risk of acquiring a urinary tract infection.

The Quality of Life project also received a grant of $2,500 from the Sperandio Family Foundation; $300 from the Women's Club of Pittsford; and $2,473 from Suzanne H. Lee Trust.
