Paige Pries, acting as an electron, circles frantically around the nucleus of a hydrogen atom, portrayed by Skye Drager as a neutron and Madeline Veilleux as a proton.

Jonathan Steffen, William Condo, Skye Brice and Paige Pries assembled a circuit using a battery, lengths of wire with a clip on each end, a switch and a light bulb on a base. When finished and the bulb lit they shouted: “We got it!”

Electrifying workshop at Kendall Elementary

“Professor Jesse,” aka Jesse Wilson, a student in a masters program at Roberts Wesleyan College, addressed Mrs. DeLettera’s fourth-grade class at Kendall Elementary School during a workshop in electricity.

This is the second year that the Kendall School has been involved in the science-enrichment program aimed at fourth graders. It utilizes unique, hands-on science experiences that are entertaining as well as educational.

The sponsoring group, Science Enhancement Opportunities Inc., is a subcontractor for the Rochester franchise of Mad Science, which has programs in about 29 countries. The Kendall program was funded through the efforts of NYS Senator George Maziarz.

According to Bryan Wolofsky, president of Science Enhancement Opportunities Inc., “The company has a non-profit purpose to find fun to promote science literacy and love of science in New York State elementary and middle schools. If they, (the students), walk away and say that science is “cool,” then Jesse has done his job.” The program was run in three different fourth grade classes one day prior to spring break.”
