Holley Middle School "locks in" to raise funds for troops

Holley Middle School students are going to be spending a Friday night at school not only to have fun, but to support the troops. After a field trip to see the movie "Freedom Writers," the students decided they wanted to find a way to make a difference.

After voting on the cause they'd like to support, students decided to organize a lock-in as a way to raise money at both the community and national level. "The lock-in gives the kids some entertainment, it raises awareness of our troops and how many service people there are right from Holley, and provides an opportunity for character education," said teacher Julie Judge, who helped the students organize the event.

To participate, students will make a minimum donation of $7 each. Activities during the event, which will take place Friday, April 20 from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. on Saturday, April 21, includes games, dancing, food and beverages. Students are looking for companies to donate snack items, two-liter bottles of soda, bottled water and ice cream sundae fixings.

Contact Judge at 638-6335, ext. 2122 or e-mail jjudge@holleycsd.org to make a donation.
