Hilton students explore history

Ninety students of teacher Debbie Montrallo's class at Hilton High School visited five different museums in the Seneca Falls area as part of the Teaching American History Grant Program Crossroads of Change program. "The rich history of Seneca Falls serves as a lens to understanding the larger themes of American history," Montrallo said. "Hilton students were examining the path of women's rights movement, suffrage issues, and the impact of central New York reformers."

Montrallo was also recognized for her participation in the Teaching American History Grant Program Crossroads of Change. She was invited to join Kevin B. Sheets, associate professor of history, SUNY Cortland, Phil Johnson, facilitator for the courses, and Billie Luisi Potts, former director of the National Women's Hall of Fame, on a panel at the National Council for History Education conference in Williamsburg, Virginia. Montrallo presented strategies used to help students understand the historical significance of the period. She also discussed how she integrated the Seneca Falls field trip experience into her classes. For information, Montrallo can be reached at 392-1000 extension 2314.
