Spencerport Canal Days Car Show
ready to roll again in July

Saturday, July 28 will be the day for the 17th Spencerport Canal Days Car Show. The annual show is one of the highlights of the Spencerport Canal Days. Last year over 250 cars were on display for the enjoyment of all involved and the hundreds of spectators that attended.

The event will again be at the Pineway Ponds Park, 2139 Union Street, Spencerport and features a wide assortment of domestic, classic and import vehicles as well as street rods and motorcycles.

Car Show Chairman Paul Eksten knows how much work goes into the effort: “The planning and organization is a huge undertaking. We start the planning process in January and it keeps the eight committee members busy right through the event. The effort is worth it though, because it benefits the community and everybody has a lot of fun.”

Eksten says sponsors are the key to a successful event. “The show wouldn’t be as successful if it weren’t for our devoted sponsors. The support of the Suburban News (Westside News Inc.), Resch Auto, Galaxy Auto Parts, Barton Parkside Hots and others means so much to the event and the community. We already have a few sponsors committed, but we’re always in need of more. It’s a great opportunity for businesses to receive lots of publicity and, at the same time, help our community.”

All proceeds from the show are invested back into a worthy community need that continues to make Spencerport “Someplace Special.”

Sponsorship ranges from the basic door prizes valued at $25 to $500 for a major supporter. Interested businesses can go to the Canal Days website at http://www.spencerportcanaldays.com/html/car-show.html . Businesses that participate receive advertisement through exposure either on the well distributed flyers (also published in the Suburban News), on the web site, and constant mention the day of the show during all the announcements.

“We are in dire need of devoted individuals who share the same passion for this event as we do. We need at least two more committee members, and as always, the day of the show relies on many volunteers to perform a variety of tasks,” Eksten said. Those individuals who would like to find out more, or to join in on all the fun and volunteer for the event are encouraged to contact Eksten through the web site.

The peer judging of the participants’ vehicles is a major factor in the success and experience this show provides. “This type of judging makes this ‘The Participants’ Show,’ and we are there to organize it and award the winners that they chose through the voting and tabulation process. This is truly their show!” Eksten said.

Current events in the collector car market have driven the desire for many who love cars to want to finally own (or just see) their ‘dream car,’ and the values have been escalating to a point where they are becoming not affordable. Attending car shows helps all to experience the vast spectrum of these wonderful wheeled vehicles that drive the culture.
