Erin Marie Fox, a junior majoring in ecology and evolutionary biology at the University of Rochester, is spending the Spring 2007 semester in Auckland, New Zealand, in one of the University-sponsored study abroad programs.

Fox, the daughter of Jon and Nancy Fox, is a resident of Spencerport and a graduate of Spencerport High School.


Timothy Peterson, son of Virginia and David Peterson of Spencerport, was named a 2006-2007 Outstanding Undergraduate Scholar at Rochester Institute of Technology. He is pursuing a dual BS/MS degree in computer science and a minor in imaging science. He was home schooled all the way through high school by his parents. He gained two-co-op experiences working on the Grape Cluster project, which is a collaboration between the computer science and astrophysics departments. Peterson works as a software developer in the System Modernization and Sustainment Center in CIMS. He is involved with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship on campus and has volunteered for Habitat for Humanity and Spencerport Bible Church.

Outstanding Undergraduate Scholarship Awards are presented to students who have achieved the distinction of maintaining a minimum university grade point average of 3.85 out of a possible 4.0 and completed at least 125 quarter credit hours of study, nearly two-thirds of the credit hours required for a baccalaureate degree. Selection is also based on other factors.


Area residents are candidates for baccalaureate degrees at SUNY Oswego's 146th Commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 19.

The following local residents are eligible to participate in the graduation ceremonies:

From Hamlin, Elizabeth A. Daniels (zoology, summa cum laude) and Ashley M. Rath (studio art, cum laude);

From Hilton, David A. Cocquyt (technology education, cum laude); Brian A. Eichas (technology education); Chad R. McBroome (technology education, cum laude); and Stephanie R. Morgante (finance, summa cum laude);

From Spencerport, Rachel C. Ritchie (wellness management).


Rebecca S. Williams of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is a candidate for the degree of Juris Doctor at the commencement ceremony for the Villanova University School of Law on May 18. Her parents are Edward L. and Suzanne M. Williams of Brockport.


The forty-fifth induction ceremony for Phi Theta Kappa, Alpha Iota Upsilon Chapter, inducted 70 new members at Genesee Community College on April 26.

To be eligible for membership, a student must complete a minimum of 12 hours of associated degree course work and earn a grade point average of 3.6 or higher. Students must maintain a high academic standing throughout their enrollment in the two-year college, a 3.3 GPA. This year's inductees from this area are: Amber McGrath, Churchville; Susan Harrell, Clarkson; Brennan Strimple and Laura Testa, Holley; Karen Fouts, Kendall; Elizabeth Christopher, Kent; Charity Snyder, North Chili and Katherine Annello, Rochester.


Mary Katherine Guilford has been named to the dean's list at SUNY Fredonia. She is the daughter of William and Ann Guilford of Holley.


Nadine Beres, daughter of John and Georgeann Beres of Hamlin, achieved a 4.0 GPA for the 2006 winter trimester and has been named to the dean's list with honors at Mercyhurst College, Erie, Pennsylvania.

Nadine is a 2006 graduate of Kendall High School and is majoring in elementary and special education with a minor in art therapy.


Elizabeth Dombrowski, daughter of Lorraine and Joseph Dombrowski of Spencerport, was named a 2006-2007 Outstanding Undergraduate Scholar at Rochester Institute of Technology. She is majoring in electrical engineering. A recipient of the RIT Computing Medal scholarship, RIT Presidential scholarship, and a member of the RIT Honors Program, she also served as an orientation assistant in her sophomore year. As a member of RIT's College Bowl, Elizabeth's team was undefeated and came in first place.

Corey Bryant of Brockport was accepted as a member of the Swain Ski Patrol in connection with the Boy Scout Venturing Crew 301. He dedicated more than 200 hours this season training in Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC/EMT) and was certified in the national required courses which include professional CPR and use of the AED. Bryant passed the OEC with high marks on both the written and practical required test which allows him to give aid and treatment to injured skiers as well as those who are ill. He is now required to carry a radio and respond to emergency calls for a minimum of 45 hours per year. Next year he will train in Ski & Toboggan handling, giving him full patroller status. He ended his season by attending the Division Student Seminar held at Bretton Woods ski area in New Hampshire where his skills were tested in competition with students from all over the northeast. Bryant is a 2007 graduate of Brockport High School. He will attend Monroe Community College is fall. He is the son of Richard and Sherry Bryant.
