Noone Post selects Boys State representatives

Harvey C. Noone Post 954 sends two junior boys from the Churchville-Chili district to the Boys State program sponsored by the American Legion. The event is held annually at Morrisville College. Over 1,000 boys from across the state attend the structured program to learn how government should function to truly represent the residents of the state.

The first order of business for attendees is to elect representatives to all state offices including governor. Then, proposed legislation is written and presented for approval or rejection by the full assemblies. The goal of the exercises is to train students in the art of debate, compromise, teamwork, bipartisanship, and respect for others, completely free of personal attacks on one another and to provide insight into how government works and how actions affect the residents.

Additional training in the areas of discipline, promptness, responsibility, sharing, helping others, teamwork and physical fitness is offered by United States Marine personnel.

The program will run from June 24 to 30. The expenses of the two representatives from Churchville-Chili, Joe Sinicrop and Todd Adams, will be paid for by the Noone Post 954 and its Past Commanders Club, according to Ed Moore.
