Byron-Bergen receives service-learning grant

The Byron-Bergen Central School District is one of only six institutions nationwide to receive a 2007 Seniors and Youth Engaged in Service (SaYES) grant. SaYES is a joint initiative of Learn and Serve America and Senior Corps, programs of the Corporation for National and Community Service, and was created to connect Senior Corps' RSVP volunteers in supporting K through 12 service activities and service-learning programs.

Byron-Bergen will receive $2,000 to foster community awareness of emergency preparedness among senior citizens in collaboration with the school's student emergency response team. Partners in the grant include the American Red Cross, Citizens Corp Council, Genesee County Emergency Management Services and Health Departments, Gillam Grant Community Center and RSVP of Genesee County.
