Church celebrates its heritage

The Parma Greece United Church of Christ, located at 1211 Manitou Road in Hilton, is celebrating its history with a special worship service on Sunday, May 27. The church was founded in 1834 by 14 local "brethren and sisters friendly to liberal Christianity." From the first meeting church members kept a journal, recording some of the events and activities of the day.

On Sunday, May 27, the church's regular worship service will be led by Joseph and Lydia Hooper, original members of the Parma Greece Church, who will tell stories about the beginnings of the church taken from excerpts from the journal. Guests and congregants are invited to dress in period clothing to further enhance the mid-19th century atmosphere. Following the worship service there will be a reception with refreshments.

The Parma Greece United Church of Christ, led by interim Pastor Glenn Evans, is a non-denominational Christian church. Worship services are at 10 a.m. on Sunday mornings; nursery care and Sunday School for the youth is also at this time. For information call the church at (585) 392-0045.
