Student-built home goes to the auction block

BOCES 2 Career and Technical Education students have built a house each year for nearly two decades. "We've been doing it ever since I've been here and that's 17 years," said Don Knab, supervisor of the project and carpentry/building services instructor.

"Building trades are best mastered through hands-on experience and what better way to provide that to our students than by constructing a house from the ground up," said Joe Salemi, CTE principal.

A three bedroom, two bath, 1,456 square feet Ranch home, complete with a master suite and bath, separate linen closet and pantry will be sold by auction on May 31 between 5:30 and 6 p.m. The auction will be held on the eastside of the WE-MO-CO building at 3589 Big Ridge Road in Spencerport where the house is being constructed. Detailed plans for the home can be viewed at www.monroe2boces.org/house. The winning bidder on the house will be required to deposit $14,000 and assume all costs for moving the structure. Used equipment and furniture will also be sold at this auction.
