Area municipalities receive grant funding

Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding to make multiple improvements benefiting residents living in the 1st Legislative District, which includes the Town of Sweden, as well as the Villages of Hilton and Brockport, totaling $105,000 has been secured. The grants are recommended by County Executive Maggie Brooks and legislation has been submitted to the Monroe County Legislature, pending approval at the June 12 Legislature meeting.

"I am very happy to announce this funding that will benefit Hilton, Sweden and Brockport," said Monroe County Legislator Richard Yolevich. "This funding will help improve many areas of the community, and I am glad to help provide these needed resources."

The largest portion of the CDBG program will go toward public works and facilities projects in towns and villages.

The Village of Hilton will receive $25,000 for the Milling Station sidewalk project located at Canning and Upton Streets. Past improvements to this area have included storm sewers, water system improvements, curbing, street lighting and street construction. This grant will fund the final phase of this area renovation, including sidewalks, landscaping and tree planning.

The Town of Sweden will be receiving $40,000 to pave and provide handicapped parking at the Sweden Town Park on Redman Road. Project will provide handicapped parking spaces and 35,000 square feet of paved parking for easier access to the Town Park. The lot is currently unpaved.

The Village of Brockport will receive $40,000 to replace 525 linear feet of sanitary sewer on Clinton Street, which was originally installed in 1901. Updating this sewer line will alleviate backups in a residential area, and improve sewer effluent flow from the central business district.
