Brockport Firefighter's Memorial Monument work progresses

The molds for the Brockport Firefighters Memorial Monument have been created using the carved wood sculptures as a base. Sculptor Brian Hanlon said the figures (which are composed of more than 20 pieces of bronze) have all been poured and they will commence constructing bronze replicas of Richard Kron's artwork. Hanlon said once the artisans re-assemble the monument and weld it back together the seams will be barely visible.

"This has been a long and involved task, and everyone at the Fire Department is waiting with anticipation for the return of the 'men,' " Christopher Martin, monument committee chairman wrote in a press release. "We knew this was quite an undertaking when we signed the contract and lifted the wood sculptures from their base last September. We also discovered that the wood was seriously deteriorating and that our timing to have them bronzed could not have been better."

The new bronze figures will stand on granite bases and will be inserted in the holes where the wood bases formerly stood. "We thank the community for their never-ending support of this project," Martin said.
